We use the Harcourt Math series. Fourth Grade is heavy with the standards that students are required to master. We have Power Standards that students need to have mastered by the end of 4th grade. 1. Basic Facts (Multiplication and Division)- these are tested by a timed test as part of our CRT. 2. Choosing the correct operation to solve story problems- this is tested on the CRT in May. 3. Addition and Subtraction of 4 and 5 digit numbers with regrouping- this is tested on the CRT in December. 4. Multiply a single digit multiplier by a double and triple digt number- this is tested on the CRT in May.
As mentioned above, math facts for multiplication and division are a must in fourth grade. We use Rocket Math (5 Minute Facts) every day to practice our math facts. We begin the first full day of school by finding each student's goal and practicing the routine. It only takes a few days to get into the swing of things, as they have had Rocket Math in third grade. Even though we practice daily, for many students, it isn't enough. I recommend that students practice their math facts often so they can stay on top of them.
I am also always on the lookout for websites that are fun to use to practice our math skills. As I find some, I will post the links here. If you know of any that are great, please let me know and I'll check it out as a possibility to be added to this site. |
