We have three units in Science. These are the life science unit, physical science unit, and earth science unit. The animal unit breaks down as follows: 3 Chapters with 3-4 Lessons for each chapter. It takes approximately 2-3 days to complete a Lesson. At the conclusion of each lesson there is usually a worksheet or small project. Tests will be at the end of each chapter with a study guide coming home 2-3 days prior to the test. We will fill it out together as a class and will also play a review game the day before a test. Bigger projects are at times also a part of each chapter. Your student's responsibilities are to participate in class, follow directions and take their Science folder home to study throughout the chapter. It can be as simple as reviewing the few new vocabulary words we learned that day. I try to keep our Science classes as active as possible while still learning the information.
Our Physical Science chapter breaks down like this:
4 Chapters with 3-5 lessons in each chapter. Most lessons will take 2-3 days, however there will be some that take only 1 day. Each lesson will conclude, again, with a worksheet. At the end of the chapters, we will fill out a study guide together and review in class for the test. In this unit, we'll be completing the Simple Machine Project. This is a state standard and requirement for 4th grade. A packet will be coming home during that chapter so students can get started, see what the requirements are, and how they will be graded. |
