We have a new basal reading book, which we will be using this book in cooperation with chapter books. The skills that the students are responsible for knowing are covered in the basal. We'll use the stories and worksheets to practice those skills. We will also use those skills while reading the guided reading books. We are also implementing the Daily 5 program. In this program, students will learn how to choose a book that is "just right" for them, how to read silently, and reading with a partner. We'll also focus on how to be an active part of the whole group instruction and small group instruction, as well as working independently when the teacher is working with a different group.
